Here is another concept, this time for a national superteam for Russia. The Guardians aren't the only big heroes that are around, and national teams like The Union will provide a mixture of valuable allies and potential antagonists (or even flat out villains in the case of certain countries).
The Union is the remnants of the Soviet Russian superteam Red Glory, a group of communist superheroes culled from across the USSR and Warsaw Pact nations. At its peak, it was one of the largest groupings of superhumans in the world. But following the collapse of the Soviet Union, it disintegrated, most of its members either leaving for their home countries, retiring due to age or boredom, or just plain getting laid off. At the end, all that was left was Vlastny, Svetlana, and the powered armor duo Molotov and Katyusha, left over from a similarly broken-up brigade of flying rocket tankmen that had been rivals to Red Glory. Determined not to let their circumstances be the doom of Red Glory, Molotov proceeded to gather together other Russian superpowered beings, to form a new team. The result was The Union, named so to honor the Soviet Union's memory and project a sense of unity and strength.
Members include:
Vlastny- "The Bear," as he's sometimes named due to his immense size and lovable yet defensively fierce personality, Vlastny is the team powerhouse, one of the strongest and toughest superhumans not just in Russia, but the world. He has a close platonic relationship with Snegoruchka, whom he treats almost like a daughter. In battle, he wears a pair of spiked knuckles he likes to call the Bear Claws. His strength also gives remarkable fortitude, such that he can drink immense quantities of alchohol without negative side-effects, and can withstand the Russian winter without protection far more easily than a normal human (though he is not immune to it).
Svetlana- One of the leading female figures in the Union, Svetlana also is one of the few who can cross the entirety of Russia under her own power, being able to transform herself into a being of living light. She can also generate light energy into a variety of forms and manipulate it, creating lasers and bright flashes of light. By controlling the frequency of her light energy she can pass through any transparent barrier (and some that aren't).
Chernovolk- One of the new recruits, Chernovolk is a Siberian hunter whose reputation preceeds him. The resident physical fighter, he relies on a mixture of stealth and his skills as a hunter to stalk opponents, enhanced by telepathic and psychokinetic abilities that make him a nightmare in close combat. He wields a very large spear.
Molotov- The leader of the team, Molotov was originally a member of the Rocket Tankmen Brigade, a team of powered armor users that rivaled Red Glory. Following the breakup of the Soviet Union all that is left is him and Katyusha. With no clear leader left among them, the remnants of Red Glory approached Molotov with an offer of joining forces to create a new team, and ever since he has been their leader and figurehead. He is sometimes called "The Hussar" for the wing-shaped pylons on the back of his suit, resembling the wings mounted on the armor of Hussars. Combined with a cape, this gives Molotov a distinctive, authoritarian presence. And he's not just for appeareances either; "the Hammer" is an apt name for him, his suit emphasizing strength and durability. Besides raw strength that makes him an effective secondary powerhouse on the team, Molotov packs a powerful remote controlled hammer and concussion cannons.
Katyusha- The other half of the duo that remains from the Rocket Tankmen Brigade, Katyusha has been Molotov's faithful partner in the Brigade for some time, supplementing her partner's shortcomings with her own unique skills. Following the formation of the Union, the Russian government has attempted to turn her into a kind of sex symbol, deliberately altering aspects of its design to allow for as much sex appeal and exposed skin as possible. To her credit, she has begrudingly gone along with this, no matter how much she dislikes it. Thankfully, her suit can pop in armor to cover up when a fight arises. Not that durability is an important staple of Katyusha's armor. True to its namesake, the armor is a powerful ranged support platform, capable of incredible speed and maneuverability. Though still incredibly strong and tough, its forte is its speed and arsenal, which includes a variety of incendiary rockets, guided missiles, repeating plasma blasters, and microwave lasers.
Kuznets- Raised in the dumps of Moscow, Kuznets has always been a tinkerer. An orphan, he was discovered to have minor magnetic abilities, but the program created to study children like him was shutdown before he could be put to use. In the junkyards he grew up, studying old textbooks and playing around with old machinery and equipment. He discovered he had a gift for it, and with his magnetic powers could change and shape the parts into whatever he needed. Becoming a kind of junkyard inventor, he helped benefit his neighborhood, and it was this activity that brought him to the attention of the Union. Already something of a superhero, he joined up
with the team so he could tinker with truly state of the art equipment. As a result, he has become the resident technology expert on the team, helping to maintain its headquarters, the Stronghold, as well as its vehicles and the armors for both Molotov and Katyusha. His magnetic powers allow him to alter most form of solid matter by touch, allowing him to quickly whip up weapons and machinery he might need, including a portable railgun powered by his abilities.
Snegoruchka- The mythical Snow Princess, a staple of Russian fairy tales, is yet another new addition to the team. Claiming to be on a mission of peace to help the Russian people and prove her grandfather, General Winter, that they deserve to continue to live, Snegoruchka is a kind, gentle young woman who is most "people friendly" member of the team. She is also the most friendly, and likely to get into a great deal of trouble if she approaches the wrong people. That isn't to say she can't defend herself, being able to flash freeze opponents instant and create ice out of thin air, as well as a general ability to control winter weather and wind. She and Vlastny have a very close platonic relationship between one another.
Soslovnik- The final member of the team and last new member, Soslovnik is an Eastern Russian of Mongolian blood, and formerly an enemy of Red Glory. He is a tribal shaman and mystic of considerable power and skill, but not inherently evil, as his conflicts in the past stemmed more from an ideological war with the communists than anything else, a war to preserve the traditions and beliefs of his people and ancestors. Following the breakup of Red Glory he was invited to join the Union, who cited that they no longer adhered to the practices that had led to conflict with him. In light of this change he accepted, becoming the team's resident expert on magic and mythical creatures. However, he doesn't particularly care for the Russian government's handling of the team, and should that go too far, he may leave the team's membership.
I will have images of them soon.
