Doomwatch
Forming the trifecta of major protective forces of humanity and earth alongside the Guardians and Golden Dawn, Doomwatch is the taskforce of individuals employed by Algernon Xidorn, head of the nonprofit organization Alexandria. The goal of Alexandria is to seek out and gather the hidden knowledge of the universe, and employ it as best as it can to the betterment of mankind. In this regard, they have to deal with adversity from decidedly human opponents as much as the various supernatural and extradimensional enemies that plague them. Of all the big "superhero" groups they are the least likely to directly work with the others; Xidorn doesn't particularly care for superheroes, only finding them useful as way to deal with problems that have gone pear shaped.
While Doomwatch primarly deals with decidedly unnatural threats, as their apocalyptic name might imply they are primarily concerned with threats of a truly doomsdayish nature, whether they be natural, ecological, technological, alien, or supernatural. Their headquarters tend to be either located in Alexandria's central location in London, or aboard the extradimensional construct known as the Transient Bridge, able to access various points in space, time, and other universes or dimensions.
Members: (Full membership coming soon)
Algernon Xidorn- The founder of Alexandria and the man who officially oversees Doomwatch's activities. A man of considerable age and very learned, Algernon is extraordinarily intelligent and perceptive, and is one of the key powerplayers in the shadows of the world. He was once an adventurer and investigator like the members of Doomwatch, but with age has retired to more full manage Alexandria, the organization built from the fruits of his labors.
Emmanuel Obermann- Rescued by Algernon as a child, Emmanuel was the product of Nazis ubermensch programs to create a superior human. Algernon helped shut down those programs, but couldn't bring himself to kill the first successful creation of them. Believing in nurture over nature, he raised Emmanuel to be his son and successor. Emmanuel is the current leader of Doomwatch. He possesses all human traits heightened to superhuman levels, an extremely gifted mind with a near perfect memory, and developing psychic powers, including telepathy, ESP, precognition, psychometry, and tactile telekinesis.
Emerald- A mysterious woman who Algernon has known for years. For a time she was his suitor, but now as a member of Doomwatch she has taken to be Emmanuel's partner and potential mistress. A seemingly dangerous femme fatale, Emerald is not quite human, and has kept her origins a secret from Algernon and the others. Despite this, she is trusted, especially given her track record. She is the only member who can compete with the Exemplar in terms of powers, possessing the ability to rewrite or ignore the laws of physics withing a small radius around her. This allows her to manipulate gravity, time, matter, and the laws of thermodynamics as needed.
The Traveler- A mischievious adventurer and superscientist, The Traveler is an extradimensional alien who has taken the guise of a human to explore the cosmos using the Transient Bridge. He has joined Doomwatch mostly because he finds the stuff they get caught up in to be fun, and he enjoys learning about new things. He has a knack for technology and data, and can take pretty much anything he touches and alter it into a suitable piece of technology for his needs.
Thomas Silent- Thomas Silent was an astronaut and Air Force pilot, one who was part of an experimental space flight. Unknown to him, the whole point of the trip was to deliberately expose him to the elements of space and see what would happen. What did happen was that he became infected by a space-borne alien organism that ordinarily could not survive a trip through our atmosphere. But in the body of Silent is took hold and mutated him. The result was a shapeshifting monstrosity that went rampant until it was subued by Algernon, who managed to restore some of Silent's humanity. But his body remained changed, so that Silent, while human in mind, is no longer such in body. Given this transformation, he has taken his talents as a shapeshifter and used them in the employ of Doomwatch to assist them.
Wil Winston- Apparently kidnapped by aliens as a child, Will Watson was rescued by an early incarnation of Doomwatch when they investigated the affair. They defeated the aliens, but discovered that Wil had been permanently changed; by invoking various unnatural phrases he can switch into a superhuman form, dubbed The Exemplar by the media. This body grants him vast superhuman powers that make him arguably the most powerful member of the group. The limits on the Exemplar's power are unknown, and he has demonstrated a wide array of seemingly unrelated abilities and talents, though his most commonly displayed ones include vast superstrength and durability, flight, and energy manipulation.
Stephanie Gwynn- A young woman with the ability to manipulate nature and life itself, Stephanie ended up accidentally creating a sentient biological intelligence within all life that she can manipulate and control. Her mind tied to every single organism, from whales to bacteria, she initially started out as an ecoterrorist, but was convinced by Algernon to join Doomwatch instead, with the promise that as a member she could affect real change without endangering innocents. Since humanity too was a part of life, she accepted. Thanks to her powers, she pretty much acts as the team's early warning system, since her psionic ties to nature mean she can detect just about any major threat anywhere on the globe. She can take on aspects of nature to enhance herself or transform her body, and can even "teleport" by destroying her body and then rebuilding it from organic matter at another location. She can also manipulate life, accelerating growth and evolution in diseases, plants, fungi, and animals as need be.
