Just barely I think. There's a line where when you cross it, a team stops being a team and becomes a small organization unto itself. I think it'd be better to call them something other than a team. A "Class" would be more appropriate, especially given that they are supposed to represent the best and brightest of the Academy's graduating students.

Well, based on your list you've got a pretty significant number of characters there. I would just call them "Junior Superhero Class" or something, with a mascot name, ala New England Patriot, Chicago Bulls, that sort of thing, have them be a group of graduates in training with a few select members of the Guardians Unlimited. If we have, say, 15 characters, then three superheroes as teachers for them and "team" leaders.

Academy Update In the year 2013 the Earth was still recovering from the (blank) invasion that nearly destroyed all of mankind. With a vast amount of documented young vigilante on the rise and with a lot of great heroes lost in the war after the invasion the government presented the newly formed Global Unity with the idea of forming a school for the next generation of heroes. After agreeing to help with the project The Guardians along with a vast majority of other countries began creating a global standing ground for the future.
As the plan began to grow the Guardians came up with the idea of having safe haven for the students, this idea lead to the funding and formation of Meridian. Meridian was built on the remaining parts of the state of Hawaii that had been blown off in the invasion. Meridian would act as the home for thousands of students of all kind of origins.
Lady Mesmerize used her powers to recruit the first 3 students of the Academy, (codenamed Brocky, Orbit, and Eden). Those three students would later go on to be the first students to become a part project GISHA. Project GISHA acted as the final stepping stone for students that showed great promise and to those that excelled far past the other students. These students in their minds felt ready, they had their own agendas, their own problems, and their own missions.
As knowledge of project GISHA spread throughout the Academy it quickly became something more than it was ever supposed to become. They had attracted their own enemies just like every other superhero group had and it was up to them to stop them. As the member cap of GISHA expanded to a roster size of 8 they dropped the name project GISHA and began calling themselves The Young Guardians. Their 1st task at hand was to put an end to their arch rivals, a group of Academy dropouts that went by the name of The Unders.

Elpis sounds okay, if a bit...generic.
Meridian doesn't make sense, for reasons we've already discussed.

Hey how many gisha students should we name?

As many as necessary. Because these are undergraduate students and not graduate superheroes in training, none of them are "superheroes," just kids.

Couple of updates: Final member of mine for the Young Guardians is "Zosimos." A kid with alchemical-type transmutation powers from New Mexico, he fell into the wrong hands and began working for a local cartel, using his powers to create the best drugs on the market. But he was captured during a DEA sting operation, and in jail contemplated the life he'd led. He was released when insufficient evidence could be made that he colluded with the cartel, but was directed to the Academy by the DEA, using his drug money to pay for his education there. He signed up for the Young Guardians as a way to stop criminals like the ones who used him, and to pay back for all the suffering and misery he contributed to. He takes his name from the very first alchemist known to recorded history. And here's Necro-Girl: Necro-Girl also hails from a troubled background, having been a former member of the nomadic group of ghouls known as the Living Dead. However, Mortis Rex, who feared and envied her power, attempted to sacrifice her to take her power for himself, but she fought back and fled. She was picked up by Lady Mesmerize and taken to the Academy, going along to seek refuge from Mortis Rex's wrath. But sooner or later she knows that she must confront the necromancer and defeat him. It is something she fears, but with her friends the Young Guardians she has a measure of hope against that looming threat. Necro-Girl has the ability to percieve and communicate with dead spirits, as well as animate and control dead flesh, allowing her to resurrect the dead as zombies; she can employ this power to either regenerate living tissue or cause the exact opposite. Her power is psychic rather than mystic in nature. To compensate for her lack of offensive options, she has taken up lessons in hand-to-hand combat with Gideon, Team 2's leader.

Well, what was the first name for it? "The Ward" makes me think of hospitals or insane asylums.

Yeah, as much as I don't like the name Elpis, its better than "The Ward".
Hell, just Google "The Ward." First 20 results are for the John Carpenter's recent film about an insane asylum, and the video game "Dementium II," which is also set at an insane asylum.

Any room for another character? If so, I have one that I think would be a good fit. I know her powers are a wee bit similar to Brocky, but much of the focus is off that. kerevon.deviantart.com/art/Megalass-298218053Personality is very subdued, kinda sarcastic. Does not enjoy the company of others, isn't particularly well-liked in turn, kinda stand-offish, and driven in trying to learn every trick she can with her powers. This obsession sometimes blinds her to doing what's right, but this is mostly due to grief at her sister's death. Powers mystical in nature, no formal combat training (yet), and only has an average IQ. Not nearly powerful enough to simply muscle through foes.

Megalass would fit in perfectly. Brocky can't control the Earth he just has stone armor.
