The man commonly known by the name of "The Enforcer" has had a long, complicated, and tortured life. He has been a soldier, mercenary, vigilante, and now is a prominent member of the Guardians and the Guardians Global Unity. He is a legend, an icon, a patriot, mentor, teacher, defender, judge, jury, and if necessary, executioner. He is and has been many things in his life. Perhaps it is a testament to him that in spite of everything he has been through in his life, nothing has stopped his drive.
The Enforcer was originally a clone, a supersoldier created from the combined genetics of the legendary warhero called the Flagbearer, and the Italian freedom fighter Bella Donna. Both of them were individuals acknowledged as having borderline superhuman ability when it came to being soldiers and fighters, and it was envisioned that if an entire army could be made possessing such skill and competency, it would be unstoppable.
Of course, the problems of making proper clones meant that such projects needed decades before the technology could be created that could overcome potential problems. But when those advances came, it was the day of miracles. And from the first batch of hybrid clones was born a boy, who was named David Magnum, and codenamed "Headhunter". Due to his slightly accelerated biology he matured far faster than any ordinary human, growing up alongside his brothers and sisters in the facility known as the Hatchery. Together the group was dubbed WOLFPACK, and they were the elite superhuman special ops team of the United States, a testbed for the future generations of soliders in the American army, equipped with futuristic weaponry and injected with performance-enhancing nanotechnology.
But their very first mission was to be their last.
It appeared to be simple. The military dictatorship of Shangabwe had been given nuclear weapons by the Soviet Union and aggravated an oil crisis by refusing to export to any nation outside the Warsaw pact. It became a hotpoint in the Cold War, and something had to be done to prevent nuclear armageddon. WOLFPACK's goal was to quietly diffuse the situation, disarming the nukes while planting evidence to make it seem as if the dictatorship had gone rogue, rather than working for the Russians. But the truth was far more complicated.
The whole mission was a setup by their leader, Alpha Dog, who was secretly in cahoots with the Shangabwe regime and Russians, having cut a deal with them. Other members of the team had defected with him, and together they wiped out the rest of WOLFPACK. Only Headhunter survived, and even then just barely. Rescued by natives, he recovered, learning of the grievances of the military against the population. Thanks to his enhancements he recovered quickly and came back for revenge, defeating his former teammates against all odds. With the help of a secret SEAL strikeforce, he completed the mission, but failed to prevent Alpha Dog's escape, even after a close battle between the two.
The event left David emotionally scarred. He voluntarily retired from his role, and headed to the city of Ashenburg, an industrial, corrupt metrpolis known for the prevalence of organized crime and massive discrepencies between the rich and poor. David didn't care. He just wanted to be left alone. But the gangs gave him no choice, demanding protection money, and when he easily bested him, it was on. David realized that Ashenburg was the world in microscopic, corruption bearing down on the innocent. Here, he had a chance to fight back against those forces, against the forces that had led to the deaths of all the people he had come to love and care for. It was a way he could assuage his remorse.
He took back his arsenal of weapons from the Hatchery in secret, working through an arms dealer he blackmailed to continue supplying him. That secured, he proceeded on a one man war to free Ashenburg, encountering many enemies along the way, from supervillains to hitmen and assassins hired to kill him. Soon, his activities would draw him once again into conflict with his old rival, Alpha Dog, now calling himself Wolfspider, and to events that would result in him returning to his job as super-soldier, and then global superhero as a member of the Guardians.
