High Society, or simply the Society, are a different class of superhuman criminal. Literally.
Whereas most supervillains run the gambit from thieves to destroyers, the member of High Society prefer a different descriptor: predators. The Society is content with preying upon "lesser humanity," feeding off of the lower classes so as to feed their insatiable lusts and appetites. Among the advantages of this modus operandi is that because they never dabble in obvious supervillainy, they fall below the notice of the Guardians and most superheroes.
The Society is essentially a collection of superhuman supremacists, who view normal, non-super people as nothing more than a means for them to sustain their lavish lives. The members are celebrities, politicians, men and women of wealth and power. Sure, you could beat them up if you are strong enough, but that won't do a lick of good against these people. The rules of the superhero/villain game don't apply to them. They're better than that.
High Society originally started out as a movement among superhumans to protect themselves and celebrate their uniqueness and diversity. But conflicting views tore the movement asunder, branching into three factions; High Society was one of these, mostly consisting of superhumans who used their powers or connections to elevate themselves to a higher class of society. Now they exist in the shadows, preying on the "cattle" of normal humanity, celebrating their existence as a dominant secret power in the world.
